Get certified as an Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector in Oregon!
In order to obtain a 1200C/CN permit, you must have a certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector listed on your application. Certification is acquired through attendance and passage of an erosion and sediment control inspector class recognized by the DEQ.
RVSS offers Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector Certification classes 1-2 times each quarter, depending an instructor availability. Class dates are open for registration two months ahead of the class and posted below and on the RVSS Event Calendar. RVSS maintains a list of individuals currently certified through our class only.

Course Description
DEQ 1200-C and 1200-CN permits require a certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector for the project. Designated inspectors must have completed one of the DEQ approved certification courses. This course is DEQ approved and will provide the basic information needed to apply for a permit, create an erosion and sediment control plan, and install and inspect erosion and sediment control devices.
This course provides 6.5 hours of erosion and sediment control training which covers: stormwater regulation history and implementation, environmental impacts, stormwater and erosion fundamentals, NPDES permit submittal, content, and requirements, erosion and sediment control plan development, inspector responsibilities, and common best management practices.
The course includes classroom instruction, a field practical application with skills demonstration, and an inspector certification test with a passing score of 80%. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive an RVSS ESC Inspector Certification that is valid for 3 years.

Objectives
Students completing this course will understand and/or be able to:
- Principles of erosion and sedimentation: impacts, process, and factors.
- Conditions and circumstances that may lead to stormwater compliance problems.
- Navigate the DEQ and RVSS permitting process.
- Select and implement BMPs to prevent erosion, maintain stormwater quality, and remain in compliance with 1200C permit regulations.
- Provide technical oversight of installation and maintenance of construction stormwater BMPs.
- Perform an inspection of a construction site or a large-scale project.
- Maintain a logbook and other permit-required documentation.

This course is open to anyone, but the primary audiences are:
- Visual monitors / Inspectors for 1200-C/CN permitted sites.
- Construction site supervisors and workers.
- Developers and project engineers.
- Staff responsible for the preparation, review, or approval of ESCPs.
- Construction site inspectors or other organizational staff involved in ESC activity.
- Property owners that are planning to develop their land.
- Public officials.
